Our story began when Atso Raittio – a bricklayer’s son and a young engineer – wondered whether a heat-retaining fireplace could be made from cast elements. He first developed the idea with his father-in-law, and a little later with Markku Valtonen. As a result, the world’s first heat-retaining fireplace made from prefabricated elements was built in 1982 at a property called Tonavan sauna in Port Arthur, Turku. It is still in use.

Atso and Markku founded Uunisepät the very next year, in 1983. Today, we are one of Finland’s leading fireplace manufacturers. We are known for our beautiful collection and top quality. We have manufactured and installed more than 150,000 heat-retaining fireplaces throughout Finland.

Atso and Markku founded Uunisepät in 1983.

We work continuously to reduce the environmental impact of our operations. The emissions from all our fireplaces are significantly below the requirements of the Ecodesign Directive, which entered into force at the beginning of 2022. The electricity used at our factory is generated using 100% renewable energy. A high-quality Uunisepät fireplace with superior heating performance will provide warmth for generations to come. The Key Flag Symbol awarded to us is a mark of Finnish origin. Designed and made in Finland.
