The Ecodesign Directive, which entered into force at the beginning of 2022, tightened emissions requirements for new fireplaces. The Directive specifies energy consumption during operation and emissions during operation of particulate matter, organic gaseous compounds, carbon monoxide, and nitrogen oxides. We developed and patented the IKON secondary air cassette, which enables emissions from heat-retaining fireplaces to fall well below the emissions requirements and limits of the Ecodesign Directive. We have reduced fine particulate matter emissions from traditional heat-retaining fireplaces by up to 75% and carbon monoxide emissions and emissions of unburned organic compounds by up to 60%.

Development work continues
Although the measurement results demonstrating the performance of the secondary air cassette are excellent, we are not satisfied with this alone. We have tested new solutions that support the secondary air cassette. Our new innovations further advance combustion technology and thereby reduce emissions.
Our goal is to enable the entire fireplace and sauna heater industry to significantly reduce emissions from wood burning. This allows local energy to be utilized safely and in an environmentally friendly way.
It is important to us that customers who purchased a fireplace previously can upgrade their fireplaces to comply with the new directives by retrofitting an IKON secondary air cassette. This way, they can continue to enjoy its gentle warmth with peace of mind in the future.
